1/2/2024 0 Comments Dredge a farm pondIt is not intended to be a complete or exhaustive guide. The purpose of this publication is to provide general information about a wide variety of pond management principles applicable to Pennsylvania. Fortunately, management techniques are available to help you deal with almost any pond problem. Even with careful planning, many ponds do not meet the objectives of their owners or serve their intended purposes. Regardless of a pond's intended use, its management can be difficult and complex. In more recent years, the recreational uses of ponds have become more important to pond owners. Many were built under the technical supervision of the United States Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerly the Soil Conservation Service), largely to assist farming operations. Although they occur naturally in some parts of the state, thousands also have been constructed for a variety of purposes. Ponds are a common feature of Pennsylvania's landscape. The publication also touches on pond safety and regulations and includes references to several other print and Web-based resources. Featured is a detailed section on managing warmwater and coldwater ponds for various fish species, including bass/bluegill combinations and trout. Details of planning, designing, and constructing a pond are all covered, as are water quality and testing, controlling aquatic plants and algae, and fish management. In either case, you should have a copy of this publication, which provides general information on all aspects of pond construction and maintenance. Are you building a new pond on your property? Do you already have a pond that you use for swimming, irrigation, fishing, or other activities?
